Short update from Delhi

Just a quick note;

Am having a fantastic time. I love India so much and really cant reiterate enough what a fantastic country it is.
Im loving my job, its so much more than I could have ever imagined it was going to be. MFAT has been good to me, and the people I work with inspire me, the High Commissioner particularly.
I've made some brilliant friends, finally with people my age. Mostly all AISEC volunteers with various NGO's here. They come from a bizaare range of countries, but we've all got that uni student mentality socialist idealist thing in common which is comforting after mostly circulating around disgustingly wealthy people, which really gets to me in India.
At the same time though, I really miss all my NZdy friends and am reminded of NZ friends everyday, just by something that happens, someone I met, a song I hear, or finding Indian versions of people I know back home. Its weird feeling lonely in a city of 17million.

but I can feel I'm changing already.
I was such a brave little kid, no inhibitions at all. I'd talk to anyone regardless of how important or unimportant they might be, and Im sort of beginning to feel like that little bit of me, the young me, is really coming back. I had such a hard time when I first came back to NZ in form 2, i really had any individuality bullied out of me etc
but I just feel really comfortable here now. I know Im not *at home*, but i feel like Im back in something that is very familiar, the expat experience, the children of globalisation thing, and it just feels so right. Hard to explain I guess.
But i do miss you all to pieces, even the people I dont know particularly well. Its funny that. I love it here, but am quietly looking forward to home as well.

So glad to hear that you are having an amazing time.

I really wanted to do the AIESEC thing but it didn't turn out. I really want to do something like that though (but I think I would have had to do the AIESEC thing immediately after uni and I'm a bit late now)

Do you know of any good programmes there which are humanitarian based that you think I would enjoy? Don't worry if it is too much effort, but you know if the subject comes up in conversation...

I just wanted to say how happy I am to hear how well things are going for you in India, not that I am surprised!
Make sure you keep us all updated whenever possible. I'll write you an email sometime and give you an update of life here. Things are kinda different now in a good way.
Keep up the good work, Ambassador Claire!
